We all know that music is like a ladder that allows our spirits to climb up to higher realms. In order for this magic to happen, however, a musician will have to sacrifice unnumbered hours of hard work, practice and sheer search, until he or she will indeed be able to uplift our souls! Beethoven’s words come to mind here: “Don’t only practice your art, but force your way into its secrets, for it and knowledge can raise men to the divine.” Dear music lovers, It is my sincere hope that ESMA will enable many young talents to progress on this path, with the help and under the guidance of a select group of professional musicians, who will make up this year’s faculty. This summer will be ESMA’s fourth edition, and by now it has established itself as one of the well-loved traditions in the musical scene of Kosovo. This time it is the honor – and pleasure – of the Embassy of Luxembourg to organize the Academy, in cooperation with the Music Art Centre DAM, our implementing partner. We are following the example of the Czech and the German Embassies, who organized ESMA in 2012 & 13 and 2014 respectively, and to whom we owe a lot of gratitude for supporting us this year with their advice. Appreciation is also due to the many other actors that have made ESMA possible again: the EU Office in Kosovo; the Faculty of Arts; the Kosovo Philharmonics; the Red Hall; the National Theatre; the Embassies of Austria, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland; the Liaison Office of Romania; UNMIK; the Yunus Emre Institute; Misbah & friends; and the ProCredit Bank. I wish all participants a successful 10 days of studying and progressing into the secrets of music!

The European Summer Music Academy (ESMA) in Prishtina is a project that intends to exchange the best knowledge and experiences among the music professors, students and artists from the Western and Southwestern Europe. This project encourages students and professors from different countries of the region to get together and make music together.
During the ESMA days all students participants have the opportunity to work with well-known musicians, performers or/and academics, in masterclasses leaded by them. The students can attend designated programs based on their academic studies, such as singing, instrument, chamber music, but at the same time they can attend other programs of their interest, depending on their availability. By participating in these programs, all students will gain new knowledge, skills and experiences.
Not only the students, but also the guest professors have the opportunity to collaborate with the local ones, especially with the professors of the Music Faculty of the University of Prishtina and share this way their best respective academic experiences.
The Opera project is again part of ESMA in 2015. The Festival String Orchestra is the newest feature of the ESMA 2015, which will become a tradition of ESMA in the years to come.
The official language of ESMA is English, hence all students should have a good ability of understanding and speaking English.
Interested composers are invited to submit an original work for string orchestra (see conditions below). A jury led by ESMA musical director Desar Sulejmani, and comprising all string professors of ESMA 2015 as well as a representative of the Embassy of Luxembourg in Kosovo, will evaluate submissions and proclaim one single winner.
The winner will receive a monetary prize of 300,- EUR (three hundred euro), and the winning entry will be performed at the Closing Ceremony of ESMA 2015 by the ESMA String Festival Orchestra.
The deadline for submit your application for ESMA 2015 has now expired!
More than 250 young musicians from many European countries have submitted their registration on www.music-academy-prishtina.com.
That's a great feeling and also promises a full potential!
Thank you for your interest on the 4th Edition of European Summer Music Academy in Prishtina!
